Kitchen Reno
After months and months of sketches and frankly, YEARS of HGTV hours, we finalized a plan and built our dream kitchen in summer 2018.
The Kitchen Before…
Welcome to circa 1992. Tiles, tiles everywhere. Pickled Oak cabinets. The space was a great size, just ugly and we dreamed of having an island with seating.
The Plan:

July 4, 2018
This week, Troy removed the ceiling, wall between kitchen and dining, cabinets. A 15-yd dumpster was delivered. Troy taped out the future island.
Issues: With the soffit gone, we see the upstairs bathroom plumbing and heating elements. Some plumbing arranging will have to happen.
The ceramic tile floor was brutal: tiles glued steadfast to a wood subfloor which was glued and screwed into another subfloor. The sound of the cracking wood was enough to cause the dogs to scatter and stay in our bedroom.
We had a consultation for central air and we're going to put in two units, upstairs and down. Some returns will be moved.
The contractor started July 16th, after demo was complete, including removal of wall and ceiling surfaces.
August 3 — Visited Gaydos Flooring in Downingtown to choose backsplash tile and countertop. Choosing the Quartz was immediate. Knew we didn't want a lot of veins, nor total white. Sara showed us a brand new product Lido Blanco that she just got in. It was perfect. Pulled out bits if darkness of the floor and also had specks of pure white since we didn't know exactly how white the cabinets would be.
For the backsplash we knew we didn't want shiny cold marble-like tile, but wanted variations in color. Tiling all the way too the ceiling, I didn't want just repetitive subway. We looked at stone-like options and ended up with this beauty. The sample was small tiles with beveled edges, but we ordered 3 x 6 with straight edges. The colors are amazing and when we placed it next to the quartz and the flooring it was meant to be!
August 6 — Placed the order online for the cabinets! Bought them at www.thertastore.com. Ordered Southport White Shaker, after reading a man's online review where he compared all the white cabinets from RTA, found here.
August 8 — we hit Sherwin Williams for paint. Thanks to Pinterest I knew they had a beautiful collection of soft greiges. Brought a swatch of the existing living room (Behr Elephant Skin) and our samples and a cabinet door, which we ordered from RTA Store earlier in the week. Easy decision, chose Amazing Gray, then matched Pure White to the cabinet door to order paint for the crown moulding, trimwork and ceiling.
While they mixed paint we headed to Lowes to order the flooring. An easy decision also because I knew what I wanted, posted it to the Mom Facebook page and a local gal said they have it at Lowes. It's called Galvano Charcoal Porcelain. Online here. We placed the order for full pallet but will come back with our two SUVs on Saturday to pick up. Opened a Lowes credit card to save 10% and thought about what we could add to the order. In Appliances we found the Bosch dishwasher Troy had researched about and it was on sale. We also chose the crown moulding shape we wanted and sent a photo to the Contractor.
